Nirbhaya

Unaware, I boarded my last ride, In a nation that claimed its people's pride. We called it free, with every right, But freedom faded in that night. Inside the bus, humanity died, Their eyes were hollow, their souls denied. They tore my dress, my body they chained, muffled my screams. Again and again, my spirit was drained. With iron rods they pierced my flesh, My cries were smothered, my hopes enmeshed. Drenched in blood, abandoned, alone, Cast on a road, my body was thrown. Yet in my silence, a question burns- When will this nation, its conscience return? Are we truly free, when monsters stray, While justice falters, led astray? Nirbhaya-my name they gave, Not as a victim, but one who’s brave. Its meaning shall shine, its truth shall be- When women are safe, and humanity free.
